2011 - 2014 Dodge Challenger Information

The 2011 model year rang in with a few more improvements over the previous years.  There was the new 3.6L V-6 motor which boosted performance of the previous year's V-6 up to 305 HP.  That was a full 55 more than the 3.5L V-6.  Paired with the 5-speed automatic that came with a manual shift capability it was a vast improvement over the prior year's slow shifting 4-speed automatic.  EPA ratings changed to 18 mpg City and 27 mpg on the highway.

The R/T sported a new cold air induction system for the 5.7L HEMI®.  It also picked up a slight bump in horsepower to 372 hp and 400 lb. ft. of torque with the 5-speed auto, or 376 hp and 410 lb. ft. of torque with the optional 6-speed manual.  Still taking advantage of MDS the EPA rating stayed marginally the same at 16/25 mpg using the automatic transmission and 15/24 mpg utilizing the manual 6-speed.

The SRT8 bumped up to the 6.4L HEMI® V8 and also took a bump in its horsepower output.  Now pushing out 470 HP a full 45 HP more than the previous year's 6.1L. Torque is also up in 2011 to 470 lb. ft. a gain of 50 lb. ft.  Other upgrades also included newer front end styling, guage graphics, more responsive steering, revised suspension tuning and Brembo brakes.  EPA ratings came in at 14/23 mpg with the 6-speed manual and 14/22 mpg with the 5-speed automatic.

Sales continued to increase with approximately 39,534 being sold domestically in the US, but with a slump in Canadian sales, coming in at 2350 units.

There were a few changes going into the 2012 model year.  The trim levels got renamed to SXT, SXT Plus, and R/T Plus levels.  Also new was the optional steering wheel mounted paddle shifters on the SXT Plus and R/T.  Becoming standard on the SRT8 model was a heated steering wheel.  The addition of the 18 speaker Harmon Kardon audio system was also added as an option, giving the owner over 900 watts of power for the SXT, R/T Plus and R/T Classic trim levels.

With no changes to the motors or transmissions for 2012, room was left for some exterior and interior upgrades.  For the interior the SXT Plus and Challenger R/T models equipped with the 5-Speed automatic got zinc-metallic paddle shifters.  Standard on the SXT and R/T were 18 inch wheels, while the R/T Classic received 20 inch heritage inspired wheels.  The R/T Classic also garnered new vintage inspired R/T side stripes.  The SRT8 got a new set of shoes as well, with a specially designed 20 inch wheel.  Also new to the SRT8 were emblems and badging.

EPA measurements remained nearly the same, while sales numbers continued to increase in the US.  Domestically approximately 43,119 Challengers were sold with an additional 1485 staying in Canada.

The 2013 model year returned with several trim choices including the Rallye Redline Edition.  Other than trim choice changes and a few new exterior colors, the Challenger remained mostly unchanged.  Improvements to the navigation system across the board and new adjustable suspension settings worked their way into the SRT8 model which also received launch control as a standard feature.

A few new options were available to add on as well, including high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, sunroof, the 18 Speaker Harman Kardon sound system, track suspension, navigation, 20 inch wheels as well as new appearance packages for the exterior.

The interior did not receive the update that ran through the Charger model line yet, but it was clear to see it was coming.

The same engine choices remain available; the 3.6 liter 305 horsepower, the 5.7 liter HEMI® 372 horsepower, or the 6.4 liter HEMI® 472 horsepower.  The EPA ratings again remained consistent with 18/27 mpg, 15/23 mpg and 14/23 mpg for each engine respectively.

Sales figures for the '13 model year showed its largest leap so far, with a jump to an approximate 51,462 vehicles being sold domestically in the US and 1623 additional sold in Canada.

The 2014 Model year for the Challenger returned primed with new models as well as the return of the Scat Pack option packages.  The Mopar Challenger made its appearance with a limited production run of only 100 units.  Only offered in Bright White or Gloss Black with the classic shaker style hood and Mopar blue side stripe and standard 20 inch wheels.  The interior had Mopar blue accent stitching  for the seats, center console, shifter and the steering wheel.  Each model came with its own numbered dash plaque  as well.

The shaker hood also made its way onto the R/T models as an option.  Available in satin black it was a throw back to the original shaker hood, but also acts as a cold air intake.  The Super Track Pack was also an available option for the 2014 R/T Shaker.  It offered performance tuned steering, brakes, and suspension components along with performance tires and a revised traction/stability control system which included a "full off" mode.

Also introduced were the three new factory staged Scat packages designed to increase power and performance in the R/T packages.

The 3.6L, 5.7L HEMI®, and 6.4L HEMI® with the 5-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmissions were still the available options for the 2014 Model year.

Sales again increased slightly with an approximate 51,611 being sold domestically in the US and 1623 being sold in Canada.
